Trimethoprim can inhibit renal transport involved in lamivudine elimination, increasing lamivudine exposure.
Clinical significance and safety
The trimethoprim component of this co-trimoxazole product can increase lamivudine exposure. At the usual co-trimoxazole exposure studied, this was not considered clinically significant and generally did not require lamivudine adjustment; renal impairment and high-dose treatment require separate review. Do not change an HIV regimen on the basis of this record alone.
