Abemaciclib and Glucophage (Metformin) (Glucophage 500 mg): interaction and safety
This source-based reference is not a personal treatment recommendation. The relevance and management of an interaction depend on the exact products, route, dose and clinical situation.
Interaction mechanism
OCT2 and MATE transporter inhibition can reduce renal metformin secretion.
Clinical significance and safety
Abemaciclib with Glucophage (Metformin) is not automatically contraindicated. A clinical study found a small increase in metformin exposure that was not considered clinically relevant, associated with reduced tubular secretion rather than impaired glomerular filtration. Metformin tolerability and kidney-function assessment should still be reviewed. Abemaciclib itself can increase serum creatinine through transporter effects, so a clinician must interpret the test results.
Using this information
This is a source-based reference record, not a recommendation to combine, stop or change medicines. A missing interaction record does not establish safe use. A qualified healthcare professional should consider the exact products, doses, other medicines and individual health circumstances.
