What Jardiance is used for<\/h2>\n

Jardiance 10 mg is an oral film-coated empagliflozin tablet. It belongs to the sodium-glucose co-transporter 2, or SGLT2, inhibitor group. The EU product information covers inadequately controlled type 2 diabetes in adults and children aged 10 years and older, alongside diet and exercise. It also covers symptomatic chronic heart failure and chronic kidney disease in adults. These are distinct indications: a prescription for heart or kidney disease does not necessarily mean that the person has diabetes.<\/p>\n

Important limits and routine safety<\/h2>\n

This summary concerns the single-ingredient tablet, not an empagliflozin combination product. Kidney function and the reason for treatment influence prescribing and follow-up. Empagliflozin increases urinary glucose loss, so glucose-positive urine tests are expected. Genital fungal infections, urinary problems and increased urination can occur. Empagliflozin can lower blood lithium concentrations, so lithium monitoring may need to increase when treatment starts or changes.
