Uses<\/h2>\n

Desmopressin is a vasopressin analogue that reduces water loss through the kidneys. Oral formulations treat central diabetes insipidus and selected patients with bedwetting. Turkish MINIRIN Melt also includes adult nocturia due to nocturnal polyuria. This summary concerns swallowed tablets and sublingual oral lyophilisates; nasal, injectable and bleeding-disorder uses require separate information.<\/p>\n

Administration<\/h2>\n

Use exactly the prescribed formulation. MINIRIN Melt dissolves under the tongue without water. Swallowed tablets have different absorption, and doses are not directly interchangeable. Follow the specific fluid plan: for bedwetting or nocturia, the Turkish information restricts fluid from one hour before until eight hours after administration. Diabetes insipidus requires an individualized plan rather than simply copying that schedule.<\/p>\n

Safety<\/h2>\n

Water retention can lower blood sodium and cause seizures or death. Treatment is unsuitable with low sodium, excessive drinking, significant kidney impairment, SIADH or heart failure requiring diuretics. Older adults need particular assessment and sodium monitoring. Headache, vomiting, rapid weight gain, unusual sleepiness, confusion or seizures need immediate medical evaluation. Treatment must be reconsidered during fever, vomiting, diarrhea or other disturbances of fluid balance.<\/p>\n

Interactions<\/h2>\n

SSRIs, tricyclic antidepressants, chlorpromazine, carbamazepine, lamotrigine, opioids and NSAIDs can increase hyponatremia risk. These combinations call for a reviewed fluid plan and closer sodium monitoring, not unsupervised changes. Oral loperamide can increase desmopressin exposure substantially. Hyponatremic seizures have also been reported with oxybutynin; this is a reported safety signal rather than proof of a quantified pharmacokinetic interaction.<\/p>\n

Pregnancy and breastfeeding<\/h2>\n

Human pregnancy evidence remains limited and does not establish absence of risk. A clinician should assess the indication and fluid balance. Milk transfer after intranasal treatment is low; breastfeeding advice should consider formulation and the infant.<\/p>\n

Adverse effects<\/h2>\n

Headache, nausea, abdominal discomfort and dizziness occur. The key preventable serious harm is hyponatremia, so fluid instructions and relevant monitoring must be understood before treatment.<\/p>\n
