Enzalutamide blocks the androgen receptor in prostate cancer. The EU label includes selected castration-resistant disease, metastatic hormone-sensitive disease, and high-risk biochemical recurrence when salvage radiotherapy is unsuitable. The Turkish capsule document reviewed has narrower eligibility and sequencing conditions; an EU indication does not establish the same Turkish indication.<\/p>\n
Capsules or tablets are taken orally and swallowed whole with sufficient water, with or without food. The exact formulation matters if swallowing is difficult. Do not open capsules or crush tablets. The specialist determines whether ongoing androgen deprivation is required for the particular disease setting and treatment plan.<\/p>\n
Seizures, posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome, ischaemic heart disease and severe skin reactions are important warnings. Obtain urgent help for a seizure, sudden visual or neurological symptoms, chest pain, blistering rash or swelling of the face or throat. Blood pressure and the risk of falls and fractures require attention. These monitoring issues are different from the formal contraindications of hypersensitivity and pregnancy.<\/p>\n
Enzalutamide strongly induces CYP3A4 and moderately induces CYP2C9 and CYP2C19. It can reduce the effect of warfarin, some cardiovascular medicines, sedatives and other cancer treatments. Changes can develop gradually and persist after stopping treatment. Gemfibrozil increases enzalutamide exposure. Digoxin needs special care because exposure may increase and some digoxin laboratory immunoassays can produce falsely high results. Review medicines before starting, stopping or switching anything.<\/p>\n
Enzalutamide is not indicated for women and must not be used by women who are or may become pregnant. Male patients should discuss partner protection during treatment and for three months afterwards. Human milk data are lacking.<\/p>\n
Fatigue, hot flushes, hypertension, headache, falls and fractures are common. Report new memory difficulties or persistent troublesome symptoms so the treatment team can assess them.<\/p>\n
